Who needs an Import-Export Code?+
Any business or individual that imports goods into or exports goods from India needs an IEC, issued by the DGFT. It’s quoted on your customs documents and used by your bank for foreign-exchange transactions. Certain service exporters may also need it to claim benefits.
Does the IEC expire?+
No. It’s a one-time registration valid for the life of the business. There is, however, a simple requirement to confirm or update the IEC details each year, which we can guide you through so it stays active.
How quickly can I get it?+
Once your documents are ready the IEC is typically issued within a few working days. If you have a shipment or order pending, tell us and we’ll prioritise the filing.
Do I need a company to apply?+
